This program is hosted by the Diamond Lakes Arkansas Master Naturalists. Guest speaker Ned Skoog presents. Ned has a degree in engineering from the University of Arkansas and has 49 years of experience in manufacturing management and process design. He is President of Hot Springs Friends of the Parks, and serves on the boards of the Arkansas Natural Sky Association and Friends of the Ouachita Trail.

The program description says “While it may seem harmless, much of current nighttime outdoor lighting practice has seriously detrimental physiological effects on all life on earth (human, plants, and animal). It furthermore needlessly contributes to excess natural resource depletion and environmental contamination (air, water, and land), presents a safety hazard due to glare, trespasses on the property of others than the owner without permission, and greatly inhibits night sky view. The good news is that readily available best night lighting practices dramatically improve current extensive detrimental effects on life, retain light for actual vision where needed, cost significantly less (up to 50% reduction or more) than current practice, and greatly improve view of the night sky.”
