This talk will discuss the decades-long battle between prizefighting enthusiasts and those who saw the sport as a barbaric spectacle that bred gambling and violence. The talk will discuss in particular the attempts to have a world championship fight in the City of Hot Springs and how it drew national attention to the Spa City. Special guest Brian Irby, Archival Assistant at the Arkansas State Archives, will present.
