(V) Coming Home: Episode 4: Engage

March 7 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm CST

This program will be livestreamed at facebook.com/garlandcountylibrary and youtube.com/garlandcolibrary.

“Coming Home” is presented by Kimberly Lew, Vice-Chair of the SWAP Coalition to Prevent and End Homelessness. Lew will discuss the topic of homelessness and helping those in need in Arkansas, and lead a conversation about solutions and hurdles surrounding the issue.

This episode features special guest David Reagan, who serves as Garland County Justice of the Peace, Dist. #1.

As Lew describes the topic and her experiences: “Shelter and People. It seems so simple. People need shelter. Yet in Hot Springs, Garland County, and communities across the state of Arkansas, roughly 2,400 individuals are experiencing homelessness on any given day, with an untold number who are on the brink due to unpaid rent and utilities. Based on public school reporting another 14,000 school-age children have no place to call Home.”

Lew continues, “In this series, through exploration and conversation, I seek to expand my understanding of the circumstances. What personal stories, public policy, community engagement, outreach, intervention, and support systems exist or can be built to ensure that every person in our community has their needs equitably met? For me, it comes down to two basic questions: What do I need? What can I offer?”
