(VIRTUAL) Coming Home: Safe Shelter for All

November 5 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm CDT

Program livestreamed at facebook.com/garlandcountylibrary and youtube.com/garlandcolibrary

Program is presented by Kimberly Lew, Vice Chair of the SWAP Coalition to Prevent and End Homelessness. Lew will discuss the topic of homelessness in Arkansas, and lead a conversation about solutions and hurdles surrounding the issue.

As Lew describes the topic and her experiences, “Shelter and People. It seems so simple. People need shelter. Yet in Hot Springs, Garland County, and communities across the state of Arkansas, roughly 2,400 individuals are experiencing homelessness on any given day. With an untold number who are on the brink due to unpaid rent and utilities. Based on public school reporting another 14,000 school age children have no place to call Home.”

Lew continues, “In this series through exploration and conversation I seek to expand my understanding of the circumstances. What personal stories, public policy, community engagement, outreach, intervention and support systems exist or can be built to ensure that every person in our community has their needs equitably met. For me it comes down to two basic questions: What do I need? What can I offer?”
