September 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CDT

Program livestreamed at facebook.com/garlandcountylibrary and youtube.com/garlandcolibrary

Join Marsalis Weatherspoon and his guests in “Perceptions of Color,” a monthly series that intends to both celebrate and educate about all facets of the African-American experience. Weatherspoon, a musician, speaker, and public servant, currently serves as President of the local N.A.A.C.P. branch, Hot Springs Branch #6013.

This first episode takes an educational look at the rich history of gospel music, in recognition of September’s Gospel Music Heritage Month.

Guest speaker Dedric Jones of Pine Bluff, Arkansas will present and converse with Weatherspoon about all things gospel music.

Jones’ parents are Pastor David O. Jones and Mrs. Nadine Lowe. While being cultivated in the church, Jones not only developed his faith, but a love for music and the other arts, as well. After graduating college from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff with a BA in Social and Behavior Science with an emphasis in History, Jones attended graduate school at UALR where he pursued a graduate degree in Public Administration. Jones is also licensed as a Global Career Developmental Facilitator.

In 2001, Jones started a gospel group known as Dedric Jones and Chosen Praise. Throughout Jones’ music career, he has received national recognition as an acclaim multi-talented music producer/songwriter.

In 2020, Jones embarked upon a new journey as an author of a children’s and youth activity book entitled, “Psalms for the Little Ones Volume 1 Activity Book.” Along with the book, Jones is “now making his mark in countless places as he shares knowledge and wisdom that will empower our children and youth of today and adults for our tomorrow.”
