Join fiction writer and GCL staff member Chanan Emmons for a monthly dive into fiction writing and the writing life. The Inkhearts meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month to discuss craft-related topics and workshop fiction selections submitted by members of the group. No prior experience is necessary. New participants will be guided in the workshop process.
This program is free and open to all fiction-writing adults, from beginners to published authors, who want to sharpen their fiction writing skills and participate in a nurturing artistic community.
Chanan earned her MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and her BA in Professional & Technical Writing from UALR. She is excited to have the opportunity to work with other Garland County writers.

By popular demand from local gamers, the library will host a competitive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament for adults! Please read the rules before registering.
Rules (Point Accumulation, Swiss Style Bracket)

* 1st place will receive a $75 gift card, 2nd place will receive a $50 gift card, 3rd place will receive a $25 gift card, and 4th place will receive a $10 gift card.
* All characters and all kart combinations are allowed.
* All items are on.
* No COM.
* Players must bring their own Nintendo Switch-compatible controller.
Every player will compete in six rounds, in a Swiss-style point accumulation tourney.
1st place – 15 points, 2nd place –12 points, 3rd place – 10 points, 4th place – 5 points.
Round 1 – Baby Park, 150cc
Round 2 – Toad Harbor, 150cc
Round 3 – Royal Raceway, 150cc
Round 4 – Wario’s Gold Mine, 150cc
Round 5 – Grumble Volcano, 150cc
Round 6 – Rainbow Road (MK8)- , 150cc
After all six rounds, the 4 players with the most points go to the Finals. A tiebreaker race to determine top 4 will be held if necessary.
These 4 players will compete in 3 races together, adding more points to their existing total.

What: Perceptions of Color: Livestream of Voices of Elaine: The 1919 Arkansas Massacre and Its Ongoing Impact

As part of the Perceptions of Color series, the Garland County Library will livestream the keynote speaker and Q&A panel portion of the “Voices of Elaine: The 1919 Arkansas Massacre and Its Ongoing Impact” program. The event will be hosted in-person at the Hot Springs Central Theatre. This livestream version is free, but for in-person ticket purchases or more information, visit voicesofelainehs.org. The in-person program will feature a screening of the 2022 documentary film We Have Just Begun and box lunch prior to the keynote speaker.
The keynote speaker is the honorable Wendell Griffen, circuit court judge and pastor. This will be followed by a panel of Elaine residents who are descendants of those who lost their lives in the fall of 1919.
