Join fiction writer and GCL staff member Chanan Emmons for a monthly dive into fiction writing and the writing life. The Inkhearts meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month to discuss craft-related topics and workshop fiction selections submitted by members of the group. No prior experience is necessary. New participants will be guided in the workshop process.

This program is free and open to all fiction-writing adults, from beginners to published authors, who want to sharpen their fiction writing skills and participate in a nurturing artistic community.

Chanan earned her MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and her BA in Professional & Technical Writing from UALR. She is excited to have the opportunity to work with other Garland County writers.

Bookmobile Bingo

What: Bookmobile Bingo

The library hosts its long-running, popular Bingo program for the first time at the Mountain View Towers’ community room. Visit the GCL Bookmobile from 1-2pm, then dart inside for the opportunity for some awesome prizes! Prizes include a Sony Blu-Ray Player & Streamer, gift cards for some grub, and free books. Participate for the chance to win! All prizes for this program are sponsored by the Friends of the Garland County Library.

As part of the library’s commitment to accessibility, we also have braille bingo cards available to blind and visually-impaired players. Patrons with hearing loss are also supported with numbers appearing on screen.

No registration is required.

 

Rooted Communities with Arkansas’s Miss Agriculture

Join Lynzy Simon, Arkansas’s Miss United States Agriculture Advocacy Ambassador, for a program that teaches kids how to grow their own food and share the abundance with neighbors in need.

 

Ms. Simon will:

  • read Plants Feed Me, by author/illustrator Lizzie Rockwell
  • teach the life cycle of a sweet pea plant
  • lead kids in assembling a mini “life cycle” accordion book
  • help kids plant their own sweet pea plants to care for at home
  • talk about her role in the Miss United States Agriculture Organization and the importance of agriculture
  • and encourage kids to grow and share food in their communities

 

Cozy Killers Book Club – March 2024

The “Cozy Killers” book club features cozy mysteries, plot twists, and curious cases. This club is meant to be about book discussion, as well as connecting with like-minded book worms that love all things cozy and mysterious. Free copies of the book are available on a first come, first served basis. Please register in person.

In March, we will meet and discuss Books Can Be Deceiving (A Library Lover’s Mystery) By Jenn McKinlay.
