Ukulele lovers unite! Local ukulele lovers of all sorts and ability are invited to gather and share as part of their hobby.

No planned instruction will be offered. This is intended to be a social club.

Beginner Mountain Dulcimer Class (For Adults!)

Registration Required 

Learn to play the mountain dulcimer with Charlie Mink, a longtime performer at the Ozark Folk Center State Park and instructor for the music roots program in Mountain View, Arkansas.

The mountain dulcimer is one of the easiest instruments to learn, and Charlie will teach you everything you need to know to start playing songs. Dust off that instrument and bring it to the library, and leave with several songs under your belt.  Don’t have a dulcimer? The instructor has a limited number for reserve on a first come first served basis. In order to reserve one, please email Aubrey at adultservices@gclibrary.com.

-Students must bring their own Dulcimer.
-Dulcimer tabs and all necessary printed materials will be provided.

March’s program, “Improvisation, the Essence of Jazz”, will feature Henderson State University’s Dr. Rick Dimond on keyboards and key musical students Julius Carcamo on sax and bass, Austin Murberger on guitar and bass and Kiki Valdivia on acoustic and electric violin.

The Jazz Society scholarship program continues to send music students to jazz summer camp  and present jazz education in local  communities, including the free outdoor JazzFest on Labor Day weekend.

Alisa Coffey, Principal Harpist with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra (ASO), will be the guest at the Garland County Library as part of the ongoing music series collaboration with the Hot Springs Jazz Society.

As part of the evening concert, Alisa will provide insight into the workings of the harp, its tuning, its construction, how it is played, and how the harp has been used in the past and its use in music today.

Alisa has been Principal Harpist with the ASO since 2011. She has been featured as soloist with the orchestra several times and will again be featured in the upcoming ASO season. In addition to her work with the ASO, Alisa performs regularly with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas,  the Baton Rouge Symphony, and the Shreveport Symphony. Alisa is a sought-after teacher, working with students at the Little Rock School of the Arts, Hendrix College, and the University of Arkansas. She is a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Northern Texas.
