Richard Stephens’ Watercolor Workshop

What: Richard Stephens’ Watercolor Workshop
When: April 13-15 @ 9:00am – 4:00pm each day
Where: Library Auditorium
Who: 18+
Registration Required, opens Wednesday, March 15th

This class is a 3-day commitment: April 13-15. For the first time ever, the program is free to all participants and registration is required! A limited number of slots are available, so if you find out you cannot attend, we ask that you please cancel your registration in advance.

Attendees must also bring supplies and materials found at this list: bit.ly/35uA3nJ

The class will last from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. each day and will include a lunch break.

Watercolor artist Richard Stephens has partnered with the Garland County Library to teach this workshop for many years.

Mr. Stephens shares these words with his students:

“My approach to a Beginning Watercolor Workshop is very different from my more advanced classes.

I spend time on the basic tools of the trade…brushes, water, paints and paper. We do some basic exercises such as color mixing, creating textures, the importance of “timing” in watercolor, water/pigment ratio, how watercolor is vastly different from the opaque mediums, share a few “tricks” we can use in watercolor, suggestion in working from photos, and the importance of developing basic drawing skills and doing value sketches.

Of course, Design Principles are of utmost importance…but, in this class, exposure to the tools and physics of watercolor is the focus.

I do a demonstration painting each day and the students work on their paintings with lots of one-on-one time with me. A successful painting is NOT our goal…becoming familiar with the tools of watercolor is what it is all about.”
