Join fiction writer and GCL staff member Chanan Emmons for a monthly dive into fiction writing and the writing life. The Inkhearts meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month to discuss craft-related topics and workshop fiction selections submitted by members of the group. No prior experience is necessary. New participants will be guided in the workshop process.

This program is free and open to all fiction-writing adults, from beginners to published authors, who want to sharpen their fiction writing skills and participate in a nurturing artistic community.

Chanan earned her MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and her BA in Professional & Technical Writing from UALR. She is excited to have the opportunity to work with other Garland County writers.

Bingo for Books

What: Bingo for Books
When: 1st Wednesday & 3rd Monday of every month (rescheduled for holidays)
Where: Library Auditorium
Who: Ages 18+
No registration required

The library hosts its long-running, popular Bingo program in the auditorium every month on the 1st Wednesday at 1 P.M.  & 3rd Monday at 1 P.M. (Falls on the 4th Monday when the 3rd Monday is a holiday).

Prizes include various gift cards to restaurants and grocery stores, as well as some gift certificates to the library’s Book Sale Room. All prizes for this program are sponsored by the Friends of the Garland County Library.

As part of the library’s commitment to accessibility, we also have braille bingo cards available to blind and visually-impaired players. Patrons with hearing loss are also supported with numbers appearing on screen.

No registration is required.

Scribes Fiction Writing Club

Calling all storytellers! Whether you like to write stories, graphic novels, plays, screenplays–or tell your story in a different way, this program is for you. We’ll learn about different aspects of storytelling, play storytelling games, and sometimes do a little writing.

No experience is needed, and no one will be required to share their work unless they want to. This is a low-risk creative environment.

Join us at any time for a series of 8 monthly programs focusing on topics designed to introduce the public to astronomy. and promote interest and understanding. This series is hosted by Arkansas Master Naturalist and Hot Springs Village Stargazer Jerry Simmons, with assistance from fellow HSV Stargazers Brian Brengle and Jay Williams.

The “Introduction to Astronomy” program schedule includes the following installments:
