This program spotlights African-American bathhouse employees–ordinary men and women who participated in extraordinary moments in American history. HSNP Ranger Dr. Dan Chmill chronicles a few of their amazing stories, stories uncovered this year by staff members at Hot Springs National Park.

Garland County Candidates Forum

What: Garland County Candidates Forum

The Garland County Library will host a state and local candidate forum on Tuesday, February 6th. Doors open to the public for meet and greet at 5:30pm, with the forum beginning at 6pm.

All state and local candidates who will be on a Garland County ballot will invited to participate. Candidates will each get 5 minutes of time to give a speech and answer audience questions as they see fit.

Guest moderators will be Sarah Richardson, Executive Director of the Literacy Council of the Ouachitas, and Marsallis Weatherspoon, life member of the Hot Springs N.A.A.C.P. #6013.

Admission is free and open to the public, though seating is limited. This event will also be livestreamed to the Garland County Library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Join us at any time for a series of 8 monthly programs focusing on topics designed to introduce the public to astronomy, and promote interest and understanding. This series is hosted by Arkansas Master Naturalist and Hot Springs Village Stargazer Jerry Simmons, with assistance from fellow HSV Stargazers Brian Brengle and Jay Williams.

7. Tue, Feb 6 – Virtual Astronomy – Using Skymaps and Stellarium
8. Tue, Mar 12 – Total Eclipse Preparedness Program (for the “Big” Eclipse on 4/8/24)
